Continuing our project in our Individuals and Societies class about the sustainability of our environment, I have really begun to learn about the horrors that many animals on our planet face. I've been doing much research on animal extinction and the loss of biodiversity in class, and am shocked to find how many species have become extinct in the last few years and how many are endangered and have a similar fate in the near future.

Our next assignment to be done in our unit Take only Pictures is what we call a TTalk (or TedTalk). It will be similar to our Pitch presentation only this time, roughly 4-6 minutes long. I have started preparing for my TTalk by doing much research on my topic (Animal Extinction and the Loss of Biodiversity).

One of the most interesting pieces of information that I have found online is that many animals have become extinct over the last hundreds of years as this is a normal cycle in life, but the extinction rates in the late 20th century and early 21st century have drastically increased to an estimated 100 - 1000 times the normal rate of extinction. These statistics show that not only have more animals become endangered or extinct in the last few decades, but also that this issue is more important than ever to do something about.

I'm going to start doing more research on what can be done to help the endangered animals, and already know that there are many charities and organizations that are for the help of these species. I hope that everyone on our planet will have more of an awareness for animals and that life will go back to what it was hundreds of years ago.
