One of my favourite classes in school is called Individuals and Societies, more commonly known as Social Studies. My class was told to find a topic that we're very passionate about and that has to do with sustaining our planet and our environment. We were then told to do lots of research on our topic which will help us further in presentations that we are to do for our class.

Something you may be wondering is, what topic did I choose? Well, it didn't take me very long to decide that I wanted to do something animal related. Throughout my entire life, I have loved animals and have been very passionate about them. I did some research in class, and found a website on animals and plants that are soon to become extinct in the near future. I was shocked to find that the list was so long, I knew that there were many species that are endangered, but I didn't think that there would be that many! I then knew right away that my topic was going to be animal extinction and the loss of biodiversity.

After everyone in my class chose their own topic and learned more about it, we were given our first assignment to create a pitch. What is a pitch? Well, it's a presentation that we were to do for our class to give our classmates a small taste of what our topic is about. It was supposed to be short (1-2 minutes long) and yet hooking and interesting at the same time. It was to be so short, because later on in our unit, we're going to do a similar presentation, but instead of giving a small taste of our topic, it will be everything about our topic. The goal is to make it similar to a Ted Talk.

On Pitch Day, which was October 5th, every student in my class took turns presenting our pitches. They were all very interesting to learn about how in so many ways, humans have strongly affected our planet for the worse. We have littered our oceans, poisoned the air we breath, and have done so much more that has altered our planet.

My pitch was very successful, I talked all about the extinction of the many species of plants and animals, and explained that we could do so many things to save them. Looking back, I have no idea how I crammed all my information into a two minute presentation.

In conclusion, I am so excited to start working on my Ted Talk and am very proud of the result of my pitch.
